The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a versatile hunting dog that is also an excellent companion dog. They are loyal and affectionate with their family, but can be aloof with strangers. They are an active breed that needs plenty of exercise, and they are good swimmers. They are a relatively easy breed to train, and they are good at obedience and agility. German Shorthaired Pointers are a relatively healthy breed, but they are prone to some health problems, such as hip dysplasia.
