They are still used for sledding in some parts of the world, but are also popular as companion animals. Malamutes are very friendly and good with children, but their size and strength means they need to be well-trained and socialised. They are also very active dogs and need a lot of exercise.

Axel the Alaskan Malamute is a much loved family pet. He is a lovely example of the breed and has wonderful traits that we would like to preserve. He is IKC registered and has just turned 5.
