Because of their affectionate nature, super intelligence and love for children, they make excellent pets. They are very loyal to their master and family members, are extremely clean and are house trained at around 8 weeks of age. They are the only breed in the world that house trains themselves. Famous celebrities like David and Victoria Beckham are the proud owners of a Shar Pei called Barnaby. And Louise Redknapp, the musician, who is the happy owner of her famous Snoop dog Blu. Shar Pei are a low maintenance dog who enjoy a walk now and then but if you have a quarter acre of land around your house, it is more than sufficient to keep them exercised as they will exercise themselves. Their coat needs brushing every couple of weeks and a wash around every 10 weeks which you can do at home quite easily. They are very easy to train due to their high intelligence and you can train a Shar Pei to do almost anything. Their aim in life is to please their family and they are very, very fast learners! All Shar Pei owners will know exactly what I'm talking about. My dogs and pups do not have skin problems, joint problems, nor have they had their eyes tacked. They are healthy, physically active and are fun loving, playful happy dogs. They are vet checked yearly and have a clear bill of health. Pedigree dogs of all shapes and sizes all have different health problems, I ensure that my dogs are kept on a balanced healthy diet of grain free kibble and get the best food recommended for Shar Pei. They also get Salmon Oil and probiotics for healthy skin and gut. Because of their outstanding devotion to their family, their love of children and their incredible intelligence, I am trying to increase the numbers of this amazing and rare breed in Ireland. I have been breeding Shar Pei on and off for 15 years and none of my puppies or their parents have been aggressive towards people but they can be stand offish with strangers and won't come to them. Mum is a fawn coloured girl and is our family pet, dad is a blue and is a British dog. Both parents are Irish Kennel Club and English Kennel Club Registered. Shar Pei have all the qualities one would wish for in a dog and there's an old Chinese saying that states, "Once you own a Shar Pei, you will always want a Shar Pei"!.
