The Maltese is a small, white dog with long, silky hair. They are gentle, loving, and playful, and make great companion dogs. Maltese are also very intelligent and easily trained. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs, and have been popular pets for centuries. Maltese are generally healthy, but like all dogs, they are susceptible to certain health problems such as patellar luxation, tracheal collapse, and hydrocephalus. Health screening of the parents is advised before breeding.
