The Dobermann is a medium to large sized dog that is well known for its loyalty and protective nature. The breed is also known for being intelligent and obedient, which makes them excellent working dogs. They are often used as guard dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Dobermann is a relatively new breed, having been developed in the late 19th century. The breed is sometimes spelled with one n (e.g. Doberman); this reflects the US spelling of the breed. Dobermanns are on the restricted dog breed list.
