Flint is an IKC Registered male Hungarian Vizsla 4 years old in Carlow
Details
Description
Flint, is a very handsome 4-year-old neutered IKC registered male Hungarian Vizsla. Born 17th September 2022.
We have had him since he was 3 months old and this is an incredibly difficult decision for us, but we are looking for the right forever home for him.
Flint is a very loving, friendly, intelligent and energetic dog who is absolutely typical of his breed in the best ways. He is a real "Velcro dog" who wants to be involved in whatever you're doing and would happily spend his entire day following you around. If you sit on the sofa, he'll very quickly decide that your lap is where he belongs — regardless of the fact that he is too large to be considered a lap dog!
He is extremely affectionate and people-orientated, loves attention and being petted, and thrives when he can be part of the family. He is the sort of dog who will make sure you never feel lonely!
Flint is also very sociable with other dogs. He currently lives happily with our other pets and has always been friendly with dogs we've met out and about. He also lives with a cat and is completely fine with him. We also have horses, and cows next door and he is very sensible around them, keeping his distance and doesn't venture too close to them in the field etc, even off leash. We have never seen him display an ounce of aggression towards any animal, he's a real sociable kind type.
He is very trainable, food and toy motivated and eager to please. He will almost burst when you tell him he's a good boy! He knows his basic commands, has excellent recall and is great off lead. He walks very well on a lead, although like most energetic young Vizslas, he will pull or jump up if you let him get too excited, but he just needs a little direction. He responds very well to training and picks things up quickly. He loves playing fetch and would thrive with an owner who enjoys continuing his training and giving him enrichment and things to think about.
He is fully house-trained, crate-trained, non-destructive and has good house manners. He doesn't chew furniture or destroy things and isn't a barky dog at all. He is used to living as a house dog and sleeps happily on the sofa each night. Once he has had sufficient exercise and stimulation, he settles very nicely in the house and is particularly happy relaxing beside you in the evening.
Why are we rehoming him?
This is the hardest part for us to write because Flint is not a bad dog, and there is nothing "wrong" with him at all.
He has grown up with our daughter from birth and has always been incredibly patient and gentle with her when she was very small. However, now that she is a very active toddler and spends much more time running around outside, Flint's size and enthusiasm has become difficult for us to manage safely. He is a big, athletic, energetic dog with absolutely no self awareness of where his body is going when he gets excited, bless him!
He has never shown aggression towards her — the problem is simply that he can bump into her or knock her over when he's excited, despite his best intentions... and he's always very sorry about it afterwards. As a result, he has had to spend more time separated from the family than we feel is fair to him.
And that is ultimately why we feel he deserves another home.
Flint wants to be with his people. He wants walks, adventures, training, cuddles and to lay on the sofa beside you... Or on top of you! We don't want him becoming a dog who spends his days outside because our circumstances have changed and meaning we can't give him enough freedom and attention that he craves and deserves.
The home we're looking for:
We are looking for a very active home where Flint can genuinely be part of someone's everyday life.
His ideal owner would be someone who enjoys plenty of walking, running, hiking or outdoor activities, or perhaps someone who spends lots of time outdoors around horses or on a stable yard. He would also suit an active couple or family with older children, kicking a football around in the garden etc (we feel 10+ would be more appropriate) because he does really love kids too!
A home with another friendly dog would be lovely but isn't essential — Flint would also be very happy being someone's one-and-only limpet best friend, provided he gets plenty of companionship and exercise.
A home with cats is absolutely fine.
Most importantly, we want someone who actually wants an affectionate, energetic Vizsla who will follow them everywhere, demand cuddles and repeatedly attempt to sit on their lap despite his size!
Flint is microchipped and vaccinated. He has no health problems, takes no medication and is very good with the vet. He loves the vet.. he loves everyone!
We are happy to answer any questions honestly and would much rather take our time finding the right home for Flint than rush this decision. He is a much-loved member of our family and we will be looking for someone who will love him just as much.
