We are delighted to offer a beautiful litter of Border Collie (dam) x Australian Kelpie (sire) puppies. The Australian Kelpie is a close relative of the Border Collie. When Irish, Scottish, and Welsh farmers emigrated to Australia, they brought their sheep and Border Collies with them. However, the vast and rugged Australian terrain demanded even greater stamina, and the breed was adapted into what we now know as the Australian Kelpie — a dog with the intelligence and drive of a Collie, but the energy to work tirelessly all day long.

The sire of these puppies comes from County Laois, and both his parents are full Australian Kelpies. They are among the finest working dogs we have ever seen handling cattle with young calves. The dam hails from the mountains of Mayo, with parents who are regular trial dogs at country shows. Together, sire and dam form an outstanding working pair on our busy farm — yet they are equally affectionate family companions, enjoying games of fetch and playtime with the children. The sire also has a strong guarding instinct, which is already showing in his offspring.

These puppies will thrive best in an active, working environment such as a farm. However, one or two could make excellent companion dogs provided they have plenty of stimulation, long walks, and daily play. At just 8 weeks old, they are already displaying natural instinct. On their very first outing along the fence line with a flock of sheep, their focus and drive were unmistakable. While they will require training, their eagerness and potential as working dogs are clear. I a video of them in action for those interested.

1. Ask sellers to provide an ID (driver's licence / passport) and take note of their contact details. You will also need to provide the same & a proof of address to transfer the microchip to your name.
2. Note microchip IDs posted here (981098109192278, 981098109192270, 981098109192135, 981098109192283) and check the microchip certificates (important) when you visit to make sure they match and the sellers details are on the certificate too (see example microchip certificates).
3. Do not purchase a dog without seeing a microchip certificate. It is illegal to sell a dog without a microchip that's fully registered (info).
4. See puppies in their home environment and see the mother of puppies.
5. Make sure the puppy is 8 weeks before taking ownership of the dog (closer to 10-12 weeks is even better).
6. Do not pay a deposit until you've met the owner & puppy in person.
7. Do not purchase a dog from a seller in a car park or other business location.
8. Ask sellers about the vet who has taken care of the dogs. Ask for the dog's vaccination certificate(s).
9. Use our contract template www.dogs.ie/contract or another as a basis for a written contract & ask for a written receipt.
10. It's best not to bring young kids to first meetings, to avoid disappointment in the case you decide not to buy a dog.
