The Akita Inu is a calm quiet breed that will seldom bark. They are very clean dogs and make great house dogs, despite their size. They tend not to do great with other dogs, and most trainers will say they should never be left alone in same sex pairs. These would be good as a single pet for a family. They need training from an early age, and will need to be continued into adulthood. Akitainu do shed their coats, like Huskys, twice a year. Expect your home to be covered in tufts of hair for a few weeks each year. Japanese Akitas are on the restricted dogs list.

Duke is a calm, neutered older male Akita house dog needing a new home

Longford Akita Age: 10 years 1 Male
Is it with a heavy heart due to finances I have to sell my best friend. Duke is almost eleven. I got him for £2000 in the UK when I used to live there. He is neutered, has his vaccinations annually, flead and wormed every three months. Vet card holds all this information. No health issues. Duke's daily routine is as follows: wakes up, toilets outside, scratches door to let you know he's finished. Eats a dry bowl of nuts, some water, will sit by you only for a few minutes to see you're okay and then goes to his bed. This is repeat twice a day. Duke doesn't sleep in a dog bed he choose the hall as his bed as he sometimes likes to raise his head to look out the window. He has two siblings which are a Cavalier King Charles, one is male 4 years & other is female 8 years (pictures included). Duke will mix with other dogs. He has been around children all his life and never an issue. He tends to walk away when he gets bored. I'm looking for a second home for Duke where he is warm, fed, comfortable and loved. He will warm to you if he likes you and it's beautiful to watch as he gives the best hugs. Little maintenance with Duke only open the door when he looks at you straight in the face and once you use the word "toilet" he will walk to the door so you know. Duke will sit for you and give the paw when asked but expects a treat when you ask this from him ( that's my parenting that has him expecting a treat). He doesn't need to be walked. He will pull back as he genuinely wants go eat & sleep. A warm quiet home I feel would suit Duke.
